San Marcos Breakfast Spots

Breakfast – it’s the most important meal of the day!

Kissing Tree residents have fantastic indoor and outdoor dining options at home. But sometimes it is a bit more fun to go out and let someone make breakfast for you.

Here are three of our favorite breakfast spots in San Marcos, Texas.

Blue Dahlia Bistro

No, we didn’t lead off with the expected breakfast taco jaunt, or something else that screams Texas. Blue Dahlia Bistro is a European bistro located in the heart of downtown San Marcos that brings a wide variety of breakfast faire.

Starting your day with an egg white frittata or blueberry blintzes is sure to make it a good one. Other favorites include flavored croissants with strawberry cream cheese or chocolate hazelnut, sweet vanilla Belgian waffles, and the Parissian sandwich – a treat with ham, Havarti, and tomato on a baguette, accentuated by either Dijon mustard or a dill cream cheese.

Purists, don’t fear. Blue Dahlia can start your day with fresh breakfast basics, as well, including fruits, breakfast sausages, as well as house made granola.

Your breakfast isn’t complete without a the right beverage to start the day. Blue Dahlia serves organic coffees, espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, and more.

Herbert’s Taco Hut

OK, time to get local to Texas!

The breakfast taco is one of the things that gives Central Texas its identity. Herbert’s Taco Hut brings fantastic, reasonably priced breakfast tacos to San Marcos.

With a dozen breakfast tacos to choose from, there’s something from everyone. The wide variety spans from a traditional bean & cheese taco, to flavorful Mexican favorites like carne guisada and barbacoa, to American breakfast inspired tacos with eggs & potatoes, bacon, or sausage.

Beyond the breakfast taco, full breakfasts are also available with both Mexican and traditional American breakfast plates. Are you a huevos rancheros connoisseur? You’re in luck. Do you feel like eggs, hash browns, and Texas toast this morning? They have those, too.

Country legend George Strait was a frequent guest at Herbert’s Taco Hut when he lived in Central Texas. If the King of Country is good with Herbert’s Taco Hut, it’s good with us, as well!

Cracker Barrel

Just a short drive from Kissing Tree is one of America’s favorite breakfast spots: Cracker Barrel.  And they are certainly a great neighbor to have bringing down home cooking to San Marcos.

The breakfast menu is expansive. Eggs, toast, sausages, ham, bacon, grits, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, French toast, yogurts, hash browns, fruits, granola, and more! It would take you more than a month to get through the full breakfast menu for this home cooking icon.

When done with breakfast, there is no need to leave. The Cracker Barrel store has knickknacks for gifts, or for your own entertainment! Or, spend some time in the Cracker Barrel rocking chairs out front to get the next part of the day going, like catching up on the day’s news or doing a video chat with your out of town family and friends.
