Meet Kissing Tree Resident and Creator, Catherine Lotz

Catherine Lotz didn’t have to move far once she discovered the Kissing Tree community. After living on Stagecoach Road in San Marcos for three years, she visited during KT’s dusty boot event and left as number six on the pioneer list.

A New Jersey native at heart, Catherine raised her eight kids in the Northeast before retiring and moving to the Lone Star State. Catherine resided in San Antonio for 16 years before making the big move to San Marcos. Catherine happily downsized to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom floor plan and now calls Hopping Peach Street home.

“The Kissing Tree community is unique and unlike anything else,” said Catherine. “There’s just about everything you need here and it’s really a wonderful option for people 55 and over – you just can’t beat it.”

With Kissing Tree’s more than 100 weekly activities and events, Catherine’s social calendar stays full with everything from yoga to book club and pickleball to Zumba. When Catherine isn’t enjoying a number of hobbies and activities, she’s traveling to see family or explore a new country. She’s even found like-minded travelers at Kissing Tree and is planning a group trip on a Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Cayman Islands.

Although Catherine’s background is in public education, her love for art started 40 years ago in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Through studying various artists and taking courses at Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Catherine perfected oil painting with color and light. Painting everything from the Hill Country bluebonnets to the Italian countryside, Catherine’s talents have taken her around the world. She now leads the art group at Kissing Tree and utilizes her second bedroom as an art studio.

“I believe art helps beautify life,” said Catherine. “It is hard work to do it well and you have to constantly evolve and build on your knowledge and experience.”

With eight kids and eight grandkids, Catherine doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. She looks forward to hosting weekly family dinners in her home and picking up new hobbies as Kissing Tree continues to grow.

“My family is so happy that I’m here,” said Catherine. “All of my neighbors are so friendly and welcoming – they’d be right there by my side if I ever needed any help. I’m active and love to have fun, so it really is the perfect place for me.”
