Having Fun in 2021

As this year wraps up, we’ve been reminiscing about all the good times we had here at Kissing Tree during 2021. There was the Seed Stomp! The KT float in San Marcos’ Mermaid Fest! New sections opening in Driscoll, The Strand, and Balmorhea! Tubing the Guadalupe and the Comal! So many tournaments: bowling, shuffleboard, and bocce ball! Celebrations for Veterans Day and Memorial Day! And too many driveway happy hours to count!

For our final blog post of the year, we thought we’d highlight some of our big events and special moments of 2021.

All Roads Lead to Kissing Tree

We had a great time in April making our new Kissing Tree commercial with real KT residents. Based on the theme of “All Roads Lead to Kissing Tree,” the spot features the Lacinskis and Greebons playing golf, Kevin Clifton on his motorcycle, and Heidi and Dave Lanford on their e-bikes. The KT Hill Huggers running club makes an appearance, as well as Norma and Bren Picacio-Jones walking their sweet dog Sophie. Also, Mark Burroughs did the voice over—who has worked in radio for years and now works here at Kissing Tree, too! So we used a lot of local talent.

Wacky Olympics

To celebrate the “real” Olympics later in the summer, we hosted our own competition in May. In true Kissing Tree style, Lifestyle Director Kevin Wilson had teams competing in a variety of sporty and silly events. Team “Guns and Buns” won the overall gold, but a good time was had by all!

KT Summer Kick Off

At the end of June, we had a rocking party to celebrate the re-opening of our model park with some brand new models. There was live music. And a crafts bazaar. And prizes. And even ice cream! Visitors and residents alike enjoyed getting to see the spirit of Kissing Tree back again after the subdued activities of 2020.

4th of July Parade

You might say that every day is Independence Day here at Kissing Tree, but we go especially big for the 4th of July! We had a blast at this year’s parade, with more than 100 golf carts participating in the festivities as well as live music from local band Double Down. See the pictures on Facebook.

Pickleball Tournament

In September, Kissing Tree held our third (and largest) pickleball tournament ever, the Kissing Tree Invitational, and the event was a huge success. The 50+ tournament welcomed 219 players for three days of regulation competition play as well as a rousing opening night welcome party with music from Cactus Flats. There were singles and doubles brackets for a full roster of age and skill levels, and more than 200 medals were awarded across all categories!

Christmas Bazaar

We got in the holiday spirit in early December with our annual Kissing Tree Christmas Bazaar. Located in Independence Hall, the event offered unique handmade gifts from around 20 resident artists and crafters, including painter Herky Trede, baker Sherry McCormick, jeweler Kathy Wilson, and musician Jay Leach. There was brunch from Ranch Hand and prizes for attendees as well.

We’re looking forward to more fun in 2022, including our signature event Camp KT! To find out more and get on the list, contact your New Home Counselor.
