Veteran Events in San Antonio
Veterans of the armed forces are essentially VIPs throughout Texas – the Lone Star State honors and celebrates veterans in myriad ways throughout the year.
If you’re searching for camaraderie among fellow veterans in and around San Antonio, you don’t have to look far. Take advantage of the following veteran events in 2018.
Veterans Resource Fair
In early March, veterans of all ages can learn about a variety of local resources, such as health care and employment services, at the Veterans Resource Fair in Bryan, Texas. Bryan is two hours from San Marcos via Texas 21 East, but the Fair is worth the drive.Held at the American Legion on Saturday, March 3, the Veterans Resource Fair will also have a legal clinic on the premises, where you can speak to professionals about disability benefits, VA loans, and more. There is no charge for admission.
Women Veterans of San Antonio
Female veterans have an extra level of support in Central Texas: The nonprofit organization, Women Veterans of San Antonio, seeks to provide a safe space for veterans and give back to the community.Whether you’re a veteran or still serving in the Guard or active duty, you can become a member of the organization. Women Veterans of San Antonio offers numerous opportunities for fellowship and fun throughout the year, from hiking excursions in the surrounding Hill Country to afternoon coffee dates and volunteering with the Salvation Army.

The USMVPA Annual Parade
The community of San Antonio is especially vital to veterans seeking support, and it’s home to “Celebrate America’s Military” (CAM) Week, held in November. The standout feature of CAM is its lively parade, sponsored by the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association (USMVPA).The inaugural USMVPA parade was held in 2000, and the event has grown continuously since then, earning national acclaim in the process. In 2017, nearly 250 groups participated in the parade, which weaves through downtown San Antonio. Boasting the theme of “Veterans and Community – United,” the 2018 parade will be held on Saturday, November 12.
Also during CAM Week, the community is invited to the Fort Sam Houston Veterans Day Event at MacArthur Parade Field. Scheduled for Wednesday, November 8 at 10:45 a.m., the event features a concert by the 323rd Army Band “Fort Sam’s Own.” The U.S. Army North’s Lt. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan will serve as the event host.
