5 Years of Kissing Tree - Celebrating Kissing Tree's 5th Anniversary
Sep 01st, 2022

High Five for 5 Years!

We just passed a big anniversary here at Kissing Tree! This August marks five years since we’ve opened the front gates and welcomed the first pioneers to our amazing 55-plus active adult community. Our fearless Lifestyle Director, Kevin Wilson, cooked up a weeks’ worth of outstanding activities to celebrate. “It was such a nice feeling to connect with everyone; there was a feeling of camaraderie,” resident Susan Ellis told us. “It doesn’t take long for people to find their footing here. It’s just a friendly neighborhood. The best thing about Kissing Tree is the people!”

The week kicked off on Monday night with an evening of Glow Kayaking with our River Adventure group. The group put in at the Lions Club and paddled the cool, clear waters of the San Marcos River all the way to Ivar’s pub and back. The clear plastic kayaks with rainbow-colored lights let the paddlers see fish and plant life, as well as nocturnal animals including raccoons and beavers!

Tuesday night brought the Two Rivers Revival Band to the stage outside Independence Hall, as well as delicious eats from the Un Poco de Todo food truck.

On Wednesday, the competitions got started, and all were tweaked to honor the number 5. We had more than 50 teams enter the 5-year themed bocce ball tournament, where ballers had to do their best with only 5 frames. Congratulations to Maria Salazar and Bill Ellis, who took home the win. More than 45 people signed up for the Glow Putt Tournament, which involved best out of 5 holes. Big shout outs to winners Susan Ellis and Larry Walsh!

Thursday was our Pickleball Tournament, where more than 80 players got only 5 serves to show their stuff. Pat McNeil and BJ Roscow emerged victorious!

On Friday night, we had a murder mystery theater at Independence Hall. Around 100 residents signed up for the bring-your-own-dinner event, which included musical performances from some very Elvis-like impersonators!

Saturday everyone gathered at the outdoor pool for a resort-style luau featuring hula dancers, fire dancers, and ukulele music! There were leis everywhere, as well as a limbo contest in the pool, a congo line, and a Zumba demo, not to mention the breaking of the Kissing Tree World Record for the most people in the pool. And did we mention the burger truck, taco truck, soft serve truck, and sweet tea truck? Not to mention lots of margaritas.

The celebration wrapped up on Sunday night with an encore of our popular Dualing Pianos night. More than 100 residents came to hear old favorites and some new songs! Many thanks to Kevin for organizing such an amazing week of fun, and for all the other great activities he puts together throughout the year. We don’t know how he has so much energy and enthusiasm, but we are certainly grateful for all the fun he brings to life here at Kissing Tree!
