A Community with He(ART)
The shipping container that once served as the very first Kissing Tree sales center and was later the Golf Pro Shop has now been transformed into a welcoming, functional space where artists can come together to collaborate, create, and build community.
Our Artists have Class
Kissing Tree celebrated the Grand Opening of its Art Studio with a two-week arts extravaganza that included an opening evening reception, tons of extra classes, and a two-day studio crawl. “For the two weeks, we had nonstop classes,” says Marci Blatt, an artist and member of the Grand Opening Committee. “Residents could take part in all kinds of classes, including crafts, photography, quilting, creative writing, and all kinds of painting classes.”
An Arty Party
On the night of Tuesday, October 2, the events kicked off and the community came together for an opening reception in the new studio space. While sipping on drinks and enjoying nibbles, guests admired the new studio space, which was decorated with artwork created by more than 30 of the community’s very talented artists. The Grand Central space hosted an expo where everyone could meet and greet with members of Kissing Tree’s various arts groups and clubs. It was a lovely evening for socializing and exploring all the varied opportunities for creativity here at KT.
Tour de Ville
The final weekend of the extravaganza featured the 3rd Annual Kissing Tree Fine Arts Crawl, a two-day tour where artists open their homes and studios. “People put their work up all over their walls in their homes and studios to view and purchase, it’s really fun,” says Marci. “This year, we had 11 residents represented – some people show together. It’s really fun! People came on Friday and Saturday, and some folks have a little charcuterie or a nice drink.”
Space for New Work
Now that the new studio space is open, the community’s artists will be enjoying the freedom that comes with having a place to gather to be creative and make new work, especially at the Creative Art Jams every Friday from 10 am to noon. “This is their time,” says artist and teacher Sharon Meaden. “We really love this art community. We welcome all levels. We all learn from each other.”
