Meet Tarbox and Brown
The spot where Kissing Tree is located was originally called Stringtown—a small outpost along the important road between Austin and San Antonio. Between 1850 and 1856, it grew with log houses, a general store, a one-room schoolhouse, and a Brown & Tarbox stagecoach stop. Little did anyone know that 172 years later, our newest restaurant, Tarbox and Brown, would be inspired by that stop.
Located inside our new Golf Clubhouse, Tarbox and Brown is currently under construction and expected to open in 2023. Our signature restaurant will be open to the public, combining Texas hospitality with inspired dishes and comfort food to create an experience focused on family, fun, and the art of home cooking.
The Menu
For both lunch and dinner, our rotating seasonal menu will focus on delicious American and Texas fare, with tasty sandwiches, salads, and entrees. Local brews, Texas wines, and carefully crafted cocktails will be available to pair with each meal.
The Environment
Tarbox and Brown brings a cozy and comfortable atmosphere for Kissing Tree residents, friends of the golf course, and the local San Marcos community. It will be the perfect place to enjoy happy hour, post-golf drinks, or a family dinner. We’re still designing the dining experience, but it’s likely that breakfast and lunch dining will be casual. Guests will order at the counter, and food will be brought to each table. Beverages will be self-service, and alcohol will be ordered separately at the bar. When we add dinner service, it will likely be full service, and we’re planning to do more upscale evenings such as prix fixe wine pairing dinners.
The Hours
We are tentatively planning for the restaurant to be open from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily. From 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. will be bar-only with a limited breakfast menu including light bites and breakfast tacos. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday, lunch will end at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. As we settle in, we’ll be adding separate dinner and brunch menus as well as various specialties developed by our Chef. While we won’t be open for dinner on Saturdays, we will be hosting several private events as well as club-hosted events such as wine pairing dinners and seasonal parties. We’re also planning for holiday meals such as Mother’s Day, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day as well as ethnic-themed dinners such as Mexican and Asian cuisine that are outside our normal menu. Sam’s Café will close, but Tarbox & Brown will provide pool service and the Independence Hall Bar will remain open.
Stay tuned for more details and information as we have it. Naturally, these specifics are subject to shift as our chefs finalize their plans, but we wanted to let you know what’s in the works.
