Meet Olivia Reid: Embracing the Work Hard, Play Hard Lifestyle at Kissing Tree
Olivia Reid knew the first time she laid eyes on Kissing Tree it would be where she would build her forever home. It was a simple “dusty boot” event, but she could tell there was something special about the community. All she needed to do was get her husband on the same page, and it would be the start of a new journey.
It took just one “quick stop” before a scheduled date night in June 2016, and San Marcos residents Olivia and Randall Reid left as #15 on the pioneer list.
“There’s something so refreshing about the camaraderie and being surrounded by like-minded individuals who are in the same place in life,” said Olivia. “I don’t know exactly what it was, but once we drove into the community they just had us.”
Olivia has a long history in San Marcos. Born in the neighboring town of Lockhart, it’s comforting to be close to home where she can still visit her parents, three sisters and their families on a regular basis. After leaving Lockhart in 1989, Olivia headed to San Marcos to start her job at Wells Fargo as a Consumer Lending Officer. Fast forward 29 years, and she’s now the Vice President of the Central Texas division where she manages the Business Acquisition Team and is responsible for bringing in new business (specifically those with $5 to $30 million in annual sales) to the bank.
While Olivia’s career is impressive on its own, she also has a side job of helping her talented husband find old treasures for his remarkable (and nationally renowned) art collection. In addition to being an art professor at Texas State University, Randall’s work is also featured in galleries across the country.
Not only is San Marcos near and dear to the Reids for the life they’ve made here with their two sons, it’s also where they met. All it took was a little tennis and golf at the Quail Creek Country Club, and Randall’s interest was sparked, and Olivia was smitten. Soon after, Randall started inviting Olivia to his art openings, Olivia started naming Randall’s pieces of artwork—and the rest is history.
While San Marcos is a much different place now than it was 10 years ago, Olivia loves the city more than ever before. It was recently dubbed “The Coolest Small Town in Texas” by Thrillist and continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Not to mention it’s THE place for one of Olivia’s favorite hobbies: shopping.
“I love calling San Marcos home,” said Olivia. “It’s close to two metro markets (Austin and San Antonio) but still far enough away. The beauty, the hometown feel and the tight knit community is what makes it so unique.”
The Reids will move into their home, a Bryn Mawr floor plan, later this summer and can’t wait to entertain family and friends. In the meantime, they enjoy participating in events and activities at Kissing Tree like Live Music Tuesdays, pickleball socials, golf outings and the bocce ball league. Olivia even captured the winning title of Kissing Tree Champ during the Camp Kissing Tree competition. Olivia looks forward to sharpening her skills and pursuing old hobbies as more of Kissing Tree’s amenities come to fruition.
“I’m in a great place in my life because I’m able to enjoy the best of both worlds – work and play,” said Olivia. “Who wouldn’t want to live here? Here’s a shout-out to everyone 55 and up…what are you waiting for? Come join us at Kissing Tree!”
