Fun for all Ages
One of the best things about Kissing Tree is sharing it with the people you love – especially the little ones. Yes, there’s the resort-style pool, the Chef’s Not Fancy Grilled Cheese at Tarbox & Brown, the putting green, and the shuffleboard table at Independence Hall, but what haven’t we thought of? We asked KT residents what their grandkids love best about Kissing Tree, and we got some great responses – and pictures!
Arty Party
Rosemary Dehaan’s monthly Grandparent & Grandchild Art Classes are popular with kids from 6 to 96. In the class, grands and kids learn new art techniques through seasonally themed projects. “Every class is different,” Rosemary says. “I always choose several mediums – we might make a beach scene with soft pastels, and then make an aluminum fish with adhesive gems.”
While many of the grands start off nervous about their artistic abilities, Rosemary encourages all the participants to have fun and be creative. “Everyone can do it!” she says. “So what if you do a pink fish, who cares? There may be a pink fish, who knows?” What truly makes the class so special is that the grands and kids learn together as they work side-by-side on their own projects. “They both do the same work – they do not work on each other’s work,” Rosemary says. “We talk about it – it’s amazing how close they become.” Kissing Tree Residents can check the Events Calendar for information on how to sign up for future classes.
Playing at KT
Linda Johnson wrote in to tell us that her grandson, Tate, is growing up thinking Kissing Tree is his personal playground. “He loves to go to The Mix to sing and play the piano,” Linda says. “He accompanies the bands playing guitar on Live Music Nights. He’s tried pickleball and golf on the putting greens. This summer, he learned to put his face in the water and swim at the pool. Most recently we had to choose a book from the children’s shelf in our new library to read. Did I mention…Tate just turned three years old. And now his brother, Carson, gets to join in the fun.”
Holidays at KT
There’s no place like Kissing Tree for the holidays, especially Independence Day! Tina Lilly and Steve Curl wrote in to let us know how much their granddaughter enjoyed the festivities. “Our granddaughter, Olympia, visited during July 4 week,” Tina says. “She especially enjoyed being a part of our July 4 golf cart parade!”
Make a Splash
The indoor and outdoor pools are always one of Kissing Tree’s most popular features with grandkids! Children’s hours at the pools are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day. For holidays, those hours extend to 2 p.m. If the holiday falls on; immediately before or after a weekend, then the 2 p.m. extension applies to the weekend as well. Please make sure that children are supervised at all times, and to be courteous during lap swimming or exercise classes. Lap swimming and exercise classes in the indoor pool are prioritized for residents.
