Whether your definition of the great outdoors includes a relaxing picnic or an invigorating hike, there’s something for everyone on the banks of the Texas Hill Country.

San Marcos boasts endless miles of hike and bike trails. Take in 570 acres of natural beauty at Purgatory Creek, enjoy peaceful riverside hiking on Blanco Shoals, or explore birds in their natural habitat at Schulle Canyon.

Looking for a break from the Texas heat? Jump on in – the water’s fine! Tubing is a time-honored activity in the Hill Country, with the rivers maintaining a constant, cool temperature of 72 degrees in summer.

Rio Vista Park offers the perfect spot to jump in on the San Marcos River. Check out our tubing tips and tricks before you head out for a day of fun in the sun. Did you know the Texas Hill Country is one of the fastest-growing wine-producing regions in the country? San Marcos is home to its very own winery and a number of breweries. Stop into Three Dudes Winery, AquaBrew or Middleton Brewery to enjoy a few flights and tastings.

Top off your day at one of San Marcos’ famed restaurants. Palmer’s, Blue Dahlia, Cody’s, Root Cellar Café, Pie Society and Centerpoint Station are just a few of our personal favorite for a tasty meal and friendly service.

Dance the Night Away

There are plenty of lively spots to catch live music in San Marcos. Two of the area’s most popular venues are just a short drive from Kissing Tree at Cheatham Street Warehouse and Gruene Hall. Be sure to bring your cowboy boots and two-steppin’ skills to enjoy the best of Texas Country and Americana music. Flat Top Jones, Landon Bullard and Flatland Cavalry are just a few of the bands in town for the long weekend. Check out the impressive history of Gruene Hall before you head out.
